I am right there with you when it comes to "wearing" your kit. If it were up to me, I'd have my rod and my net and that's it. If you want to come up with a system that can keep me organized without having to wear a vest or pack, I will be the first to buy! Thanks for making these videos, really love watching them!

As a relative beginner on and off Im not keen on packs and a lot of vests have too many pockets , but years back Shakespeare did a vest with just four big pockets…..brill

Hi Andy, I notice looking at your fly box you use a lot of silver beads. Can you share your views on bead colour and there usage at some time?
I don't currently use any silver beads, favouring copper or brass (with zinc for the heaviest beads) and am wondering if I'm missing a trick!
    All the best!

Great video! I am not sure where you are located, however, I can easily go on line to find out. My daughter married a Geordie and is now living in Glasgow and, of course, we travel from the US to visit. Obviously, with Covid – 19 raging in our country and with come of the travel restrictions in place, we are not sure when traveling to Scotland will be possible. I would LOVE to fly fish in Scotland!!! If you could give me some information on how to proceed with that, I would appreciate it very much. As far as lodging, I am VERY simple. The ranch I use in Colorado is a working ranch….we have bunkhouses, no running water (spring fed water), no electricity, outhouse toilets and one outside shower. It is fabulous! So….my housing needs are minimal. If you could get me started on good water, good guides, costs, and minimalist housing, that would be fabulous! Or if anyone else is reading this, I would appreciate any information from everybody! Thanks and be safe, everyone!

What about a guide to your travel perch fishing kit.
And saw the fly fishing video using the lidl rod great stuff.
Heres a challenge for you could you get everything you need for light lure fishing for the same price.
My granddaughter wants to try perch fishing i have the kit but she wants to buy her own.
Any advice you can give would be appreciated.

Great video Andy and a few bits I will need to add to my kit. Reference camera/chest pack , have you tried the backpack shoulder strap holder? I used it for the first time on a recent trip to the upper wye, found it much better than the chest strap. If you get a chance take a look at the video to get a feel of the view point I would recommend giving them a go and ยฃ10 on Amazon. video is titled A days fly fishing on the Upper Wye.

After 30 years of wearing fly vests i recently changed to a Simms ambi sling pack. Wow what difference it makes! So comfortable to wear all day. I will never wear a vest sgain

Agree Andy, keep it simple. I carry the same two boxes (dry flies and nymphs/spiders) all year round, only exception is an extra box at mayfly time just containing mayflies, as normal boxes squash them. I can't think of a time in the last few years where I've been on the river and felt I needed something that wasn't in those two boxes to catch. I use the Wychwood pack you mention at the start of the video and can get everything in there including lunch for the day. Only other pack I use is a simms half day back for winter grayling when its really cold as I can fit a 1 cup kelly kettle in there for that much needed lunchtime hot drink and a break out of the water (no one fishes at their best when too cold). Have been using the rubber band trick since I fished with you and it does work well coupled with a good desiccant, especially for CDC flies.

I just got off the San Juan river (in New Mexico USA). I was dry flying trying to figure out how to drive my flies better. I cannot wait to try the rubber band trick. Thank you so much.

Oh, question. Do you have issues with the Mucilin melting in your pack on a warm day. It seems to melt about 25 degrees C so Iโ€™ve often found its run out and into the bottom of my pack pocket. Yeuch!

Great insight into the toolbox of the Derbyshire fish guru. Really good reassurance on just how little you need. I started with a pack full of kit and now carry more or less the same as Andy. As confidence grows you perfect your kit too. Top job Andy.

I got the Wychwood short haul gear trap which has helped me reduce my collection of essentials. I have that amount of bits at the start of the season, but things tend to add themselves as the season progresses.
