Fished with my dad as a kid, he was a great angler! Bucket of fish brought home from surf perch to catfish. Pretty sure he used drop shot rigs and Carolina rigs. 2026 this year I’ve got back into fishing a Carolina rig, and have caught over 20 fish these past two weeks in the saltwater from the rocky shorelines. Even a PB 16 inch spotted sand bass on a size 6 hook using a 3/8oz sliding egg weight. Definitely depends where you are fishing, for the amount of weight to use! I’ll have to say this video is very helpful for those who want to try Carolina rigging! What lb mainline and leader line will for sure depend on what area you are fishing and targeting!

I use this rig on my catfishing gear, it works so good for catfishing except your using way heavier gear like I fish rivers and I use a 5oz egg sinker a bead and big swivel,I use 100lb braid to an 80lb mono leader because there are so crazy snags and I'm using a 10/0 hook

i agree with 90%,I'm an old man and I've used Carolina rig all my life. i fish from a John boat and use the rig as a cheap fish finder to save time. i drag it fast like a slow crankbait. it pinpoints exact location of small branches and rocks . bottom changes. then i use a Shakey head or a jig as a follow up

I’ve fished the Carolina for a long time. The video is spot on very nice guide. I use the Carolina rig as a kinda depth finder and structure finder. You’re right you really can feel the whole bottom of the lake, feeling the difference of sand and mud is easy with this and a good rod
