Just a quick note, Delrin is a quite durable material. Other plastics will ware our much quicker. I love your videos by the way. I have fished all my life and never considered fly fishing. A chance fishing adventure in Ca sent me looking for advice and information on fly and yours is the best.
Thanks to these videos. I bought my first fly rod+reel combo and, in 2 days, I've already caught 8 fish and made a nice big meal out of 4 of the aforementioned fish. Needless to say. I am addicted to fly fishing now!
Maybe I’m off base here but carbon fiber on aluminum is a good way to cause galvanic corrosion. Wouldn’t the carbon fiber disc wear away the anodizing and eventually get to the aluminum? I would think at some point you would be imbedding carbon fiber into the aluminum and corroding your reel. Maybe there isn’t enough friction to ever get there.
Well I am an idiot. I didn't realize when I was trying to practice casting that there was NO fly line on my reel. There is backing and a leader. Well I got to where I can cast the backing about thirty feet with some pretty good accuracy. It did give me some pretty good practice on timing and the 10-1 action. Derp.
Definitely help simplify some things! Went out fishing for the first time the other day with a buddy. I was using a Tenkara telescoping rod that didn't even have a reel. How do those fair in your opinion?
Thank you, first series that makes it easy to understand, seems to me you can make this as complicated as you like, when it doesn't need to be. An old guy said to me the other day " do you won't to know how to uncomplicate it, I've got 5 types of flies, if they don't eat these, they ain't flippin hungry" I liked this and thought I am trying to make something that should be simple far to complicated.
Going off to college in an area with a really expansive watershed… meaning lots of spots to fish! Figured I'd invest in a nice fly fishing setup and get out by some water when I need a bit of relaxation. This series has been INCREDIBLY helpful!!!
Great channel. One more thing I like about my reels is the free spool. If I get a fish and have lots line hanging down, I can just quick spin the reel to take up the slack. Then let the drag do its work if I need to.

Absolutely fantastic videos. I have been watching this series love it!
Pertnear gave up. Thank you for the series. I’ll keep at er.
Doesn't a reel also help in balancing the rod as well?
9 seconds quicker to the bar?…..Large arbor it is! Thanks for the tip! 🙂
lmfao!
The good news is the bar has plenty o'beer! Or bourbon.
You do a great service with these video's. Good stuff.
how do I know if my reel is a cast or a machined reel
Thanks I learned a lot
My reel clicks one way but it has no click or drag the other way
What if a reel has resistance and adjust one way, But no resistance free flow the other way. If tht make sense
Awesome clarity!

This series is great! Thanks so much! 👍🎣🎣🎣

Learning about different drag types isn't all that important to me, but still kinda cool I guess to find out about it.
Very good. Still here
Still here
When I chose my first high dollar reel, I based my whole choice based on looks, I went with a mid arbor.
👍
Excellent video! I love your "no b.s." style, it shows beginners that fly fishing really isn't all that daunting to start out. Keep up the great work!
