Haven't watched the video yet, but I'm guessing the Gulp is more cost effective. Based on my experience you get a lot more bites on live shrimp but you lose a lot of shrimp. Not as many bites on gulp, but more fish caught per gulp because they stay on the hook better.

Live shrimp are for good fish because they are expensive. To keep live hook just under the horn. Not in head. Most other ways kill them. Defeats the purpose. A live shrimp under small stick float works well for speckled trout. If wind and conditions allow live shrimp with no weight works great. Cobra, triple tail, trout. If garbage fish are stealing your live shrimp move or change bait. @ 35 or 40 cents per shrimp you need to catch something good.

I have pretty good luck with Gulp shrimp in new penny color around structure like you're doing. You can even use small chunks on a J hook to catch bait fish like your pins there. They love the smell.

Yeah , my old box chef Greg Wangel (used to be Opra Winfrey's chef ) was fishing sand dabs with his little boy off Catalina island and cought a sting ray . Happens a lot so he was in a hot pilot mode and the thing got him through his left for arm . When I say through I mean went completely through his for arm and out the other side . His 7 yr old boy had to drive the boat back to Avalon and then he was helivacked to long beach . By far the worst sting ray incident I've ever heard of . It was in the Avalon news paper 2006 . Crazy story . I worked for Greg and got the story from his mouth .

Haven't been fishing much since the hurricane, but live shrimp are available everywhere and they work just about all the time. Fishing from the shore at various local places is usual, but the Naples Fishing Pier has been closed for repair/renovations and the cold weather has kept me from going more often.
