    UK government website states :

    "Coarse (freshwater) fish

Each day you can only take from rivers:

    1 pike (up to 65cm)

    2 grayling (30cm to 38cm)

15 small fish (up to 20cm) including barbel, chub, common bream, common carp, crucian carp, dace, perch, rudd, silver bream, roach, smelt and tench

Any eels you catch (except conger eels) must be released alive.

    You can also take:

minor or ‘tiddler’ species, such as gudgeon

    non-native species

ornamental varieties of native species like ghost or koi carp"

Due to all these catch and release regulations I am not even thinking start fishing in fresh water… will invest into shore fishing instead. And fishing will done solely for food.

What a bunch of nonsense. What's the purpose of fishing if you can't eat your own fish. By the way you can keep fish but a certain amount and size. Anyway in the UK soon even the amount of farts you produce are going to be regulated.

Rules and regulations license required to drop a hook in the water to pull out a fish and drop it back in . yet the water authorities are constantly polluting the majority if not the whole of the DISUNITED KINGDOM river and canal systems . HUCKLEBERRY FINN EAT YOUR HEART OUT .

The guy in this video is completely misleading. Firstly he's using a backdrop of a harbour instead of fresh water inland. You do not need a rod license or permit for a fishing. Then he tries tell you there is a new law that says virtually all fish must be catch and released which is also bullshit. It's the opposite. Virtually all you can keep if you wish under set rules of size and season and the water you're fishing on.

Hiya mate great info thanks. What i have found is the canal and River Trust is miss leading people . you can buy the waterways wanderers fishing permit to fish in there so called managed waterways. They have produced a list of waterways you can fish. . There is one area of the regents canal London near to bridge 1 lock 12 which they say we can fish . i tried it and was told by an local council wardon on patrol, that i could not fish there if though i have purchased a permit. As you can we are being mislead and coned by the canal and river trust.

It's a bit odd to me, here in the States you just need a fishing license for the state you're in, and provided you have got permission to be on private land or fish on public land, you can fish anywhere without having to buy a permit for individual bodies of water, and while there are limits, you can keep your catch if you want to, say for supper, though I admit most of my fishing is catch and release.
