Something I've done for years with a dry dropper rig. Tie an Elk Hair Caddis or Beetle with a foam body which floats really well. The dry doesn't get waterlogged and will even support a tiny split shot with a bead head nymph. Works really well on small Eastern shallow-ish streams. Big rivers with really deep runs, not as well.
When I first started learning to fly fish, the only teacher I had was the ocean…..and she was not patient or kind or gave you slack in any way…….
When I went to teach my wife and boys, I found you guys. You put what I know and break it down in a way that is easily digestible for beginners to pros
Just started fly fishing this year and these guys videos have helped immensely. Used every rig they show and have had success with each one. The bounce rig can be frustrating with the tangles though lol. Great video guys!
Recently I fished my friends’ private pond and I caught four large rainbows but could not bring them to the net, they all broke off. What am I doing wrong.
In California freshwater it’s illegal to use the bounce rig due to the weight being attached below the hooks, just a heads up for anyone who might need it.
Flies do not have to look real, open a trouts stomach and see what’s there, I regularly find stuff there that was never meant to be part of a fishes diet, real helps but not absolutely necessary.
At 60 I've never fly fished but always wanted to try. I feel very ready to go thanks to the great videos and your fly collection kits. I feel about as knowledgeable as I can be without hitting the river. Wish me luck!
Hi guys. I just got the VFC starter pack. I am hoping the weather holds and I can get to the river on Saturday. It will be my first time and I was watching your nymphing videos. I am wondering which leader to use when tying on a standard nymph rig. Thanks for your help!
Love the video, great advice. I use the double nymph right the vast majority of the time, and I like the dry-dropper too, but I have found the bounce rig to be a cuss fest waiting to happen! 😔
The instructional part was very good. The opening repartee was not believable. Disbeliever guy is in Alaska (?) and has no idea what a nymph is? I don't buy it. The nymphing set up is very good and useful.

You might not know this, but it only catches where there are plenty of fish, and the catch isn't kept.
Instead of spitshot, why not just use tungsten nymphs?
If you do a single nymph setup do you NEED a indicator

What kind of tapered leader do you use? Mono or flouro?
