One of my rods is a $79.00 amazon rod/reel combo, caught more fish than I can count with it. At the same time I would be more likely to buy a $500 rod than a $60,000 truck. Why does this matter? It doesn’t but you took the time to read it anyway. If you want to send me a $500 rod I will catch many fish with it also.
🌴 So here’s the thing , with all ,the new resins, carbon filaments , graphite, and manufacturing abilities, fishing rods have come a long way , the fly rods of today can be produced and mass manufactured simulated to very high end selling rods , I myself am not hooked into buying designer rods just to impress my buddies or on lookers , I’ve gotten some really good second hand rods at flea markets and yard sales , the thing I like is I can find rods that vary in weight, action , size , quality, and it’s fun just experimenting with different lines to see how much better they cast , do you need an expensive rod and reel 🤔 well maybe , but have you ever had a fish get pissed off and ask you if he got caught an a cheap rod or expensive one ? 😏
Serious question, does the rod and reel really have anything to do with catching food fish? I would think that line and flies and technique is far more important than a rod and reel
If you want to learn do fish salt water, buy the rod you can afford. Do not let someone guilt you into thinking you will learn better on an expensive set up. When you learn what you are looking for in a rod then purchase a nicer one that will fit what you are looking for. Fish on your own budget. The most important thing is to get out and go fish.
It looks good. I'm very happy with the South African made Xplorer T50 range – they are also reasonably priced and deliver the goods. Thank you – I personally feel that the high end price tags put a lot of prospective fly fishers off the sport.
