Great video. Not sure you'll see this given that the video is a year old, but I'll give it a try. While the splitshot worked, getting whacked in the head or hitting the top section of the rod will ruin your day. Instead, try using a sink tip added to the end of your current fly line. Something in the 6ips range should work. Your rod is a TFO Axiom2X 7wt, which means is a fast rod that could handle Moby Dick. If you decide to look into using a sinktip, also investigate using an SA or Rio integrated 240 grain skagit line. If you don't want to mess with a skagit line, then look at SA Sonar Trout Express 240 grain. I have a 6wt Axiom2 and can tell you that with the Rio Skagit line (and a sinktip) there's no false casting; I can cast 60' with a flick of the wrist and never worry about hitting myself or the rod. The advantage with the skagit line is you can change tips (floating, hover, sinking, etc). The water you were fishing looked awesome.
Good stuff, but I would recommend 1) Sinking line and 2) bumping up to a 8 or 9wt. 7wt is fun on those little schoolies but you will hook a 30-35" fish one day and be really sad with the result(especially in that strech). I fish that same river probably 100 days a year and can speak from experience! My best is a 42" and numberous between 30-35". Congrats on the new addiction and good luck!
Found your channel while scrolling & awesome, the river looks awesome & your enthusiasm is contagious,1 remediation is check out a sink tip line or a Skagit Head for your 7 weight,I have 1 & with multiple tips can easily adapt to changing water conditions, tight lines 🤙🇺🇸
Absolutely stoked to see a fellow fly fishing channel here in Columbia SC! Absolutely killed it on the lower saluda this year for trout (landed my first 22" brown about three miles up from where your standing now but haven't caught a stripper yet!
A few years ago I warned you that fly fishing is more addictive than crack cocaine…but ya went and did it any way! I live up the road in the Greenville area and have fished that area a few times. Stripers are like tarpon, peacock bass, and smallies…they are life changing species of fish. Love your videos bro! BTW, the background of my avatar is about 25 miles upstream on the "other" river.
Nice videos, good to see you fishing river areas I am familiar with! I got hooked on the pull from the stripes a while back, while I still love smallies the stripes are just built different. There are a lot of really good size stripers in the confluence and the zoo areas, I have caught a few in the 30-35” range the last couple of years but still chasing a 40”
Live the vid man, could yall make some fly fishing how to stuff cause Im new to fly fishing. I have no idea on streamers and fly line sizes and all that. Any help is appreciated. Keep at it boys!
You will need a larger net.

Love the video. I fish Chesapeake, Raritan Bay and Jersey shore
That river looks super. Is it in SC? What river is it?
You're supposed to move the fly by stripping the line in, not move or twitch the rod. That just puts slack in the line
Get some wading boots with felt & screws and just wear socks if the water is warm enough
How does the axiom 2x turn over big flies? Looks like it shoots like crazy
Do you have any fly tying video's for the rainbow streamer used in this video? Not the articulated one.

You should do a video of all your rods and reels.
Hey man, i was wondering where this river is. I am new and would really like to attempt at catching a striper on the fly, thanks!

I was raised fly and spin fishing in the exact spot. Still go to this day.

Nice action dude. I just got a fly rod and have a friend that's going to teach me how to cast. Can't wait to broaden my angling abilities.
