What kind of controller are you using? Does it have vibration/haptic feedback?
I've found that even with the Nintendo Pro Controller, there is a slight amount of input lag that delays the the pull-up of the fish. Fishing with joycons connected in handheld mode is always the most optimal setup for me. The firmness of the buttons also prevents 80% of nervous twitch accidental pulls.

    Sea bass…suckerfish…horse mackerel…black bass…sea bass…suckerfish…horse mackerel…black bass…*sigh* SEA $&*#@% BASS… 😤

(‘Course then there were the times when I was 100% certain it was a suckerfish and it was actually a great white shark and hammerhead shark…can’t complain too much)

lol, I like there are many people who close their eyes and just use sound.
It really does lower the chance of the player making the mistake.
But glad to know they have a limit of 5 nibbles before actually biting.

I was trying to catch a shark and I had my thumb resting off the A button because I twitch as well when catching fish for some reason and I twitched and pushed the A button losing the fish and I almost cried
