Hey Ben! I'm trying to be get yuge too, but I had a question. In waters like the Rio Grande down in the SLV where its surrounded by private land, is it ever possible to solo raft that water? I dont think it gets too wild…
Love your videos, keep it up!! About the beer holder problem, just get one those old school foam beer koosies and slap some Velcro on the bottom. And boom just rip and sip. It works get for me down in the Louisiana. Or if you’re fancy try lilsucker.com
I bought a outdoor car cover for my boat to keep the sun off when I am not using it. I had to punch some tarp grommets into it in various places to allow water to drain through when it rains
This video is great! Hey for a cup holder what I did was cut a short piece of PVC then made horizontal slits wide enough for a cam strap and duel use the strap to hold my dry box in case of a flip and beer
You can generally spot an inexperienced rower pretty quick when they dis oar-rights. You aren't supposed to row with them up against the oar-lock. You put them farther up the shaft towards the handle, so that when you let go of the oar it orients the blade vertically every time. This has two advantages. The first is that the blade is in a consistent orientation when you pick it back up so that it is ready for a stroke immediately. This is priceless in a tense situation. The second is that when anchored, the oars drop alongside the bow and act as a rudder, minimizing the amount the boat is swayed in the current.
2 ideas on the beer can holders which you probable already know or seen but hey. L'il sucker koozie work on the dry box (don't know with all the stickers) also stick on the boat, my prefered beer holder is made by my friend Leo @ Montana Raft Frames u-bolts right on the frame in a convenient location. Also look at Leo's Rod Dog we helped design for our guide boats we're starting to run one on either side. And a Hiuge shout out to brilliant idea of the lock box always something with the shuttle keys!!!
I’ve had two rafts and haven’t for two season and I feel naked. Mine were older but did exactly what I need weather fishing of mutiday fiver camping. Already in the market for a new one. I can’t live without it. Can’t stand being a bank maggot. In Alaska you gotta have a way to get away from tourists.
Instead of nylon rope for the , "Oh Shit" line on the outside, I use one-inch nylon webbing. It's a little harder to rip a fly out of but it's easier on the hands for the sometimes non-fishing float with kids climbing in and out on a hot day.
Love your videos. After 18 years of being a native calm floater/fisher on the Missouri River from Wolf Creek, Montana on down, I wish someone would do the, "How to Be A Good Guide" lecture at each put-in each day.
Just reaching out to you to say that I love your content… I myself just starting filming… though you have a bit more time on the clock than I. All the same, great footage. My channel is all about the outdoors… I'm sure you already figured that one out by my channel name… "abouthewild". Anyways, keep grinding on that fly fishing life brother… be safe out there! your friend dt. (Daniel Thomas)
Cool video, question for you on oar length. I am setting my raft up to fish also I have a oar lock to oar lock width of 77" 16' boat. What size oar would you go with?

I can do this with a 14ft Jon boat, right?
I’ve got empty Kokanee’s in my boat too. Love it 👍

I like that it isn’t shiny new and it’s made to do exactly what you need. Much respect. A real river rat.

My boot is a 17×60 Willie, and a couple watermasters in the closet. Fish on, Bucko.
