Thanks for making something so intriguing so engaging and informative in a manner that’s giving me the information I need in a way that assumes that I truly know nothing and building from there. I bought a spinner rod three weeks ago and every video I see makes the assumption that I know certain things. This made fly fishing was less intimidating and I think your videos will help me justify the price of switching to fly fishing to my wife!
Thank you for these videos, they're great. I'm based in India and looking to fly fish for Snakehead and Mahseer. What would rod length & wt would you recommend? The Snakehead on average are 4 to 8 lbs and Mahseer anywhere from 10 to 60 lbs.
When you say light action bass… what’s the weight on that. I’m usually w 3-4lb bass, bit also go for hybrid striped bass, which can fight more… I have a 9’5# and just got a 9”8#. Is the 8 overkill for the largemouth and stripers (also, have potential for pike as well)
AMAZING videos. Never fly fished before but after watching your videos really thinking about getting into it. Quick question – which rod is better for a beginner ( if i'm gonna try to catch trout – -livingin Europe so no bass 🙁 – Looking at Daiwa D Trout Fly Combo – 8 ft #4/5 or 8'6 ft #5/6 ?
So I fish mostly pike and trout in colorado. Would a 6 be a good starting point or should I go up or down? I'd like to only get one rod and reel to start.
Stumbled across your videos looking at Bait Finesse for smallmouth bass. Have always wanted to get into fly fishing and couldn’t believe you are local to me! Definitely stopping by the shop as soon as possible! Thank you for the most informative and easy to understand videos I have ever seen!
Brian and the Gang, I will be 70 in July, my grandfather taught me fly fishing, need I say more. His way was all wrong and I became frustrated after a couple years and quit. Then in the late 80's a friend talked me into giving it another try. It is amazing how many people that fly fish don't have a clue what they are doing. Again after a couple years I quit again. Then in January 2019 my grandson wanted a fly rod and reel (he had seen my dust covered rod and reel in the corner) for his birthday. Tried talking him out of it, but I couldn't. Searching for some help, a friend recommended a professional fishing guide he knew. Talking to him he told me those that he guides that are struggling with it, he recommends your site and said "Brian knows his stuff". Now after of watching your video (I have watched most of them, and your Fly Fishing 101 I have watched at least 10-15 times with my grandson. I am fly fishing again and loving it! Thank you all for being in it for the fun and not just making money! We have purchased several thing from Mad River and will continue so. Awesome vids.. We live on the gulf coast and mainly fish offshore for snapper, grouper, etc. inshore we target redfish mainly. Would you recommend a size 9 rod for our fishing type? Any help is greatly appreciated
Hi. I got started fly fishing recently and took a couple trips to Yosemite already. I have 5/6 wt rod & real 9ft rod. I found it hard to use such a long rod when I fish in small creek in the forest and bush whacking. Should I go for shorter rod? Thank you
I'm just beginning and I have a 7.5' rod with a 5wt reel and line. (Gift passed down to me) We mostly will be trout fishing in the Sierra Nevada. Sound ok?
what length rod would you recommend for a 10 year old
What would be the best weight for salmon would a 9' 6 weight be the best?
This is helping me soooo much I’m just getting started fly fishing with my dad

Hey Brian what combination of Fly Rod would you recommend for red fish?
Hubby got me an 8 wt rod for here in Alaska (mostly salmon fishing). I guess he done good! 🙂
Thank you for these videos, I recently moved to Colorado. I have always wanted to learn how to fly fish.
Thank you for these videos. You’ve given me the confidence to try fly fishing. Wish you guys were closer to Nashville!
