down size the bait . down size the line LBs or line Diameter , But make a longer leader. with a smaller bait size. Make sense . i was a;ways told . low clear water down size. period EVERYTHING from Line leader and bait size. so leaders can be longer like 3feet?? and it wont spook the fish? how about going to a stick pencil lead 1/8inch lead weight than from a thick 3/8 or 1/4 inch lead???You can tell I`m a drifter .

12lb leader is kind of crazy, I use 10 main and 6-8 leader. PB is 17lb chrome on 6lb leader, took about 10 minutes to bring in.

Fish low winter water like fishing summer run. Stay low, quiet and fish the pocket water. Lots of fish this year in the pocket water.
good advice, i'd add going with darker colored hooks & swivels too
In California regulations you can not have a leader no longer than 6 foot
