This video was nice but it didn't answer my basic question of whether the line goes out around the back of the reel, or comes out forward of the metal guard connecting the outside of the reel to the spool.
Thanks! I got a fly rod for Christmas and even though I grew up in Maine and knew how to fish using a standard rod I was embarrassed by how perplexed I was by my new fly rod from LL Bean. This was a huge help and I look forward to having my own "A River Runs Through It" moments out in the river.
