I just tested C2 fishing at level 71 (got 72 in the hour) for one hour. I got 84K fishing xp. I'd definetly say it's worth it at 70+ Hope this helps anyone that's wondering whether to do C2 fishing or fly fishing 🙂
Both me and a couple friends have tested C2 fishing xp rates a lot and you do get more xp with the ring than without it so upgrade it without fear of wasting tokens 🙂
Could you explain what the gatherer's ring actually does then? I've done tests with and without it and you do get more Fishing XP after upgrading the gatherer's ring… That's really all that matters in the end right?
If you want a rough estimate, at 90 Fishing without using gatherer's ring I got about 90-95K Fishing XP per hour. Now with a level 9 Gatherer's ring I average 100-108K Fishing XP per hour.
I don't know exactly how it works… But I do know for a fact that it increases fishing XP after you upgrade it. I've tested hourly XP rates several times before and after upgrading the ring and I've gotten more Fishing XP after upgrading it.
About the gatherers ring, from my understanding it doesn't increase the fishing spots in a dungeon it just gets you more resources from a spot (not giving you xp for the extra ones ofcourse). Therefore it wouldnt increase your xp unless you plan on firemaking logs or cooking fish. This was how it worked when it first came out, if this has changed please do let me know.

This is a video game. There's a lot of things that don't make logical sense.

Combat stats don't matter, the monsters in the dungeon are scaled to your level.
