After reading everyone's comments. The answer is yes you can make your own leader from scratch. All you have to remember is 1,2,3. For example starting with the but end 30 lb-20 lb. then 10lb.every line change is ½ the lb. weight of the line you have to use regular mono. you can not use braided it will not lay down nicely. so good luck and stop spending all that money on leaders and use the money you save to go on more fishing trips!

Can i use decreasing sized tippet material to make a complete leader from scratch? Or should the butt end be made out of specific leader material, and then the taper/tippet out of tippet material?

Being new to learning flyfishing I appreciate your insights on tying the lines and suggestions. I wasn't sure what tippet line was for until I saw this video. My flypole setup I've been practicing with was all messed up. I think I've got it together now.
