Happy Earth Day! It looks like the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service might have finally struck the final blow in this thing even after drought-weary voters passed it. Even if it's passed, it'll be denied federal funding because all 5 plans violate the Endangered Species Act. Thanks to Caltrout videos like this and the hard work of environmental activists, the kind of awareness was raised that spurred the the FWS into action. Recent articles talk about how politicians have moved on and that those who support it feel they've been put on the back-burner because this year's rains have put Shasta at 90%. Here's to hoping this deal flounders until it sinks!
As California's population increases our lakes and rivers will dry out even faster, fisheries are already waaaaaay over fished. Gosh it's so sad 🙁 by the time I'm 50 I might not even have anything to catch and release anymore, and there will probably be a hotel with fast food restaurants where the McCloud river used to be
Sad story however when will California learn? They have a major water shortage yet still issue building permits to bring in yet more people to use water…Seems like California's worst enemy is Californians themselves.
They said that the Bull Trout was gone, but I caught a 15 inch Bull just above the lower falls about 10 years ago. This is probably the best trout fishing river there is. I have never fished the McCloud when I haven't had at least a 30 fish day. The problem is that I see to many people yanking fish out of streams here in No. California and just throwing them in the trash can. They just don't know what damage they are doing. I live here on Hat creek and see it all the time. People need to wake up before we ruin it all for generations to come.

I live in Southern California, but my family's from Wyoming, so I do fly fish. But I have yet to have seen this area, and I would like to see it before anything more happens to it. It would have been amazing to see such a species as a Bull Trout live so far south! But, in my case, enough is enough, and I support this.
Keep the dredgers out!
3:11 had the same expression on my face when i saw a salmon fly in north CA last year 🙂
Looks remarkably like the middle Mad River. Very beautiful.
amazing how much this state likes to ban and regulate until it needs something

The McCloud is by far my favorite river in california.

Really sad. It's such a shame to see these rivers get destroyed by us humans.

An awesome beautiful river that has about 6 miles of public access on the lower half. How much PUBLIC river would be lost to raising the dam ?
