A beginner does not need a vest and to talk about 10yards and two feet and double tapers and tippets and all the vest gadgets would switch a lot of people off . No one just starting would need to check water temp and one would never take a beginner off to by a vest. What a load of tosh.
There is some useful info here for a total beginner especially about the line and kit, yes I agree with the comments that people want to start cheaper and not buy everything but that is up to each person to decide what they need, no harm in having someone explain what it is for.

im 16 i fish the river wharfe i have had no lessons, and seeing all this shite about his 'Hardy marksman rod and reel blah blah blah……' its bull crap just go and fish and use trial and error and read books.

@universeiswise – what's wrong with a 9' 5-weight? They're very common and popular, at least on my side of the pond. I have a 9' 5-weight Sage myself. Sure, on a stream as small as the one in the video, a 7' 3-weight might be fun, but I don't get your criticism of the rod.
Why bother taking the water temp, your there fishing, you going to go home because you don't like the water temp? Come's a cross as a noddy all the gear no idea.
you don't need a balanced rod exactly because you can hod it like its balanced then let out some line then try it … guess what it doesn't balance so all that is mostly bull.
If you want to compete with anglers who know what they are about you need to learn how to do the basics right first. Of course people will DIY this skill with cheap gear and bad habits will dog you for the rest of your time fishing. Think of it this way…… learn to play GOLF properly and you will play GOLF. DIY it yourself and you will teach yourself how to play FLOG i.e. Golf spelt backways. UR choice

I just use nail clippers for trimming my line. They're much cheap, and do the same thing.

Its simple to flyfish. All you need is a rod and some flies, not all that bullshit. It took 20 min for me to learn how to flyfish. Its simple!
