I live down in Highlands County. Fish is the poga and I fish Kissimmee. My wife and I are now retired so we'd like to fish the St. John's during spec season. If y'all were going to go as a greenhorn where would you start on the St. John's John's

Thank you Terry for the in depth local knowledge.
As a Charter boat guide from rhe Keys that relocated to St Augustine last year I wanted to gain insight on the St. Johns river system.
This video was extremely helpful and I appreciate you sharing your fishing knowledge and navigation points of interest.
If you see a blue hull center console rigged for offshore cruising by, it may be me enjoing this beautifilul river.
I may make some stops along the way to wet a line because as you know, it's in our blood.
    Tightlines,
    Captain Rip

I've caught bass in the Pottsburg/Arlington area where it passes under University Blvd. I have caught redfish in Welaka during the summer. It's a great fishery. You have to watch the moon and tides. If you catch bass in the Ortega area, they taste better than pond or lake caught bass, because of the brackish water. Bass can tolerate relatively high salinity levels. It's a lot like fishing in New Orleans East. the brackish water makes the speckle perch(sac au lait) and bass taste better. We have a Grand Slam there which is a redfish, a speckled trout, a flounder and a largemouth bass. All caught on the same lure in the same spot. I've done that here in Jacksonville!

Getting ready to start boating. I'll be doing it on the St Johns river. I'm up in Deland. I had to go get a 26' cabin cruiser. 😂 It's an older boat and I didn't pay a lot for it. I figure if I hit the dock or something at least I'm not killing a new boat. I'll be crabbing the old fashioned way then eventually a few traps. Mostly chilling somewhere and some overnights. Head to Blue springs for a swim. I'll be in Astor in a few months closer to silver springs. 👍

It completely BOGGLES MY MIND that bass fisherman knows the river is filled with shrimp in Fall yet they don’t pickup a salt water shrimp bait? Is that because of here’s too many natural shrimp competing with a he artificial??
